Monroe County Clerk of Courts

The Monroe County Clerk of Courts and Comptroller, Kevin Madok, has resumed in-person services to the public. All patrons will be required to wear a face-covering to enter the building and will be required to maintain proper social distancing.

Marriage license services will no longer be limited to the Marathon location. Full marriage license services, including ceremonies, will resume at all three locations, including the Plantation Key and Key West offices. 

For those wishing to limit their interactions, the dropbox options will still be available.

The three Monroe County courthouses in Key West, Marathon, and Plantation Key are closed to the general public. Some proceedings can continue through remote technology until further notice.  

Jury trials are and selection are suspended at least until further notice. 

Tax Collector

The Monroe County Tax Collector offices are open to the public with limited services. The Department of Revenue issued an emergency order to extend the final due date for property tax payments for the 2019 tax year.

Tax Collector Danise Henriquez, is still encouraging customers to continue to do their transactions online when possible, rather than in person. Online services are available. There is no convenience fee when using an e-check online.

The Tax Collector offices at the Key West, and Plantation locations have reopened with the following restrictions: no concealed weapons permits or driver license road tests.  Only one person in the lobby at a time, masks are required, and please practice social distancing. Commercial Drivers Licenses and Commercial Driver Instructional Permits with expiration dates on or after March 16th are valid until June 30, 2020. In-person DUI program interviews, evaluations, case monitoring, supervision, meetings, and educational courses may be virtual. 

The Tax Collector’s Office will be processing driver license testing at the Key West Driver License Office, Marathon Branch Office, and the Key Largo Branch Office. The procedures are as follows:

  1. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. The appointments will be every hour, starting at 8:00 am, with the last appointment at 3:00 pm.
  2. The customer (and interpreter – if needed) will have their temperature taken prior to the driving test.
  3. Everyone, including the employee, will be required to wear a mask.
  4. The employee will be required to wear gloves.
  5. All windows in the vehicle are required to be rolled down during the driving test. 
  6. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment. If the customer is late, they will be required to schedule another appointment. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Public Defender’s Offices

The Public Defender’s Offices will be closed to visitors until further notice. If you have an upcoming court date, clients are encouraged to call our office and contact your attorney. Limited staff will be working at the office and the majority of the staff will be working from home. Clients needing additional information, please call or email. 

Mosquito Control District

The three facilities in Key Largo, Marathon, and Key West will be closed to the general public. Ground inspectors will continue to check for mosquito larvae around residences and businesses but have been instructed to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and to maintain an adequate ‘social distance’ from members of the public they encounter.
