CDBG-Mitigation Programs
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that $633 million in first-of-its-kind funding would be available to the state of Florida for disaster mitigation projects in areas impacted by presidentially declared disasters in 2016 and 2017, which includes Monroe County. These funds are available through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) and will be used to fund disaster mitigation programs to better protect Florida from future disasters. Monroe County has applied for several grants.
Critical Facility Hardening Program ($75 Million Statewide)
Applications were submitted in June 2020.
- Hardening of the Tavernier Fire Station #22 - Letter of Intent Received from the DEO for $818,800.
- Hardening of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on Stock Island - Not funded in the first round
General Planning Support ($20 Million Statewide)
Application submitted in July 2020.
- Florida Keys Regional Resilience Plan and Neighborhood Livability Outreach and Planning - not funded in the first round
General Infrastructure Program (CDBG-MIT) ($475 Million Statewide)
Applications were submitted to the DEO in September 2020. These programs have not yet been funded.
- Twin Lakes Subdivision Road Mitigation($7.1 million)
- Stillwright Point Road Mitigation ($21 million)
- Public Work Facilities and Fleet Maintenance Facility Relocation ($13.7 million)
- Big Coppitt Johnsonville Subdivision Road Mitigation ($8.5 million)
