In Fiscal Year 2024, Monroe County will be updating the 2010 ADA accessibility evaluation.

2010 ADA Accessibility Evaluation

The County continuously seeks resident input on accessibility issues via Public Input for ADA Accessibility Form

The Engineering/Roads Department is updating the sidewalk assessment from 2022: http://www.monroecounty-fl.gov/DocumentCenter/View/16697/Sidewalk-ADA-Transition-Plan-12-2022?bidId= 

The County has been updating access to a number of facilities with ADA-compliant features, such as:

  • Installing a virtual reality tour of the second floor of the historic jail to provide alternative programmatic access to the second floor of the jail and cells.

  • Added ADA beach access at Higgs Beach in Key West and a sand-accessible wheelchair for other beaches.

  • Added ADA path at Big Pine Key Community Park to access bocce courts.
  • Replaced sand at playgrounds with accessible surfaces (Pictured: Key Largo Park in 2022)

The surface at Key Largo Park was replaced with an accessible ground covering replacing sand

  • Replaced the pavement of Harris Park jetty and connected it to the parking area to allow for wheelchair access.
  • Moving the Senior Center on Big Pine Key to a building with ADA access.
  • Adding accessible features at all new facilities, like the Cudjoe Fire Station and the Emergency Operation Center.
